The shell of the mollusc is trigonal-rounded.

It lives in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk on medium and fine-grained sands with depths from 0.3-0.5 to 10-12 m. It can burrow into the sand to a depth of 20 cm.

The largest of the mollusks reach a length of about 130 mm with a mass of 500 g.

Sexual maturity of the Sakhalin spizuli occurs in the 3rd year of life with a shell length of 50-60 mm.
